Here is a prime example of HOW NOT TO LABEL your homemade skin care products.


This drives me crazy.  This picture is from our local Farmer's Market.  I have approached this person several times and let them know about the labelling requirements, and after a month or more.  This is the labelling.

What if someone is allergic to something in these bottles.....well I'm told they tell them what's in them.  Well that will certainly work if one of the people they sell to decides to give it to someone else........then are these dollar store bottles? Are the safe for handling skin care products? Are they registered with Health Canada or the FDA? Do they have liability insurance?  Do they actually make the products? Sure brings up some of questions doesn't it?

Please Please if you are making your own products, be sure to know what is required.  It is for the safety and well being of our customers.  This person does not represent natural skin care products very well at all.

I hope this article will give at least one person the knowledge they need to label their products correctly.

Seems to me if someone really is wanting to make natural skin care products for the benefit of other people that they would look into everything they need to do it correctly.

There is my rant for the day......hopefully this will change in the future.

Honey for your Skin?

Yes Honey for your skin blemishes

Honey for skin blemishes may sound new, but using honey for small injuries and infections isn't new at all.   In fact it's been used for years, and now medical science has technology to prove honey's abilities.

Honey contains the sugars glucose and fructose, natural alpha-hydroxy acids that exfoliate the skin, reducing the appearance of skin blemishes.  Honey is also a humectant, which basically means that it will attract water from the air helping to keep your skin hydrated.

One special ability when using honey on your skin blemishes is that when it is placed on your skin, the heat from your skin along with the components of the honey, create a natural hydrogen peroxide!  Hydrogen peroxide is a potent anti-microbial, that will minimize the appearance of blemishes and help to prevent the recurrence of acne lesions.

Of the research to date, the following has been documented relating honey for skin blemishes and other:

• Has antimicrobial properties
• Helps in promoting autolytic debridement
• It deodorizes wounds
• Speeds up the healing process by stimulating wounded tissues
• helps in initiating the healing process in dormant wounds
• also helps in promoting moist wound healing

A couple ways you can use honey for skin blemishes and other skin concerns is to blend honey with essential oils, lemon juice or pureed fruit.  Or, you can use it by itself.  First, apply a think layer and leave the honey on the skin for at least 10 minutes.  A warm wash cloth can then be used to remove the honey.

As a blemish treatment, apply a dab of honey to the blemish with a cotton swab and cover it with a bandage or gauze before bed.  The healing effects of honey should reduced the blemish overnight.  

Find a natural raw honey for your skin, and do a skin test first.  Also, check for 100% honey with no additives.

Hemp Butter has become a popular product for me.  It works very well on dry cracked skin or just as an intense moisturizer.

With the cold winter weather coming, that seems to suck the moisture out of your skin, using this will help keep your hands and fingers from cracking.

Products made with Hemp are excellent for combating winter dry skin.  Hemp oil is great for all skin types as it helps to balance the skins oils, rather than make it to oily or dry.  Hemp hand and body lotion is excellent as a daily moisturizer.

I had a customer come show me here nails and tell me "who needs an nail tech" when I can use Hemp Butter on my nails and cuticles and they look like I've had them done professionally!"  I was surprise, but yes her nails looked beautiful.

The Christmas Show at the Langley Events Centre
